You have more than likely heard terms like ‘sustainability’ and ‘social responsibility’ thrown around lately. You might have some idea of their importance and meaning, but if you don’t know, here’s a brief summary. Sustainability is a very broad discipline that refers to most aspects of our world from business to technology, to the environment and social sciences. Essentially, sustainability attempts to bridge environmental and social sciences with the technology of the future. It takes into account the effects of technology on the environment and society. The purpose of this article is to educate small business on how they can choose business solutions that are sustainable and better for our environment.
At Fuji Xerox Printers, we are committed to the protection of the environment through the continuous improvement of our technology performance and the reduction of our environmental impact. Some of the ways we do this include:
Ever since Xerox first introduced the first product capable of double-sided printing in 1969, Fuji Xerox Printers has been committed to designing environmentally responsible devices. Every single one of our products, from small office printers to large multifunction devices are designed with the environment in mind. It is important to us, that our customers feel confident knowing they are working with an environmentally responsible business partner. How do we do that? By eliminating the need to use toxic materials like lead-based solder, enabling low energy consumption during use of the machine, using energy efficient toner, minimising the use of new resources and at the end of your products’ life, we help with the process of remanufacturing and recycling its parts.
Fuji Xerox is also one of the founding members of TechCollect, a free e-waste recycling service in Australia. TechCollect recycle old printers, computers, accessories and TVs to the highest safety and environmental standards. It’s a free and easy way to responsibly recycle your old e-waste products.
Did you know? Electronic waste is growing three times faster than any other type of waste in Australia. By responsibly recycling your old waste and using innovative services like TechCollect, by 2021, we could be recycling 90% of our e-waste, keeping it out of landfills here and overseas. Identify equipment that does not get much use in your office, and consider exchanging standalone devices for multifunction units. This can make a big difference as it reduces the number of devices operating in your office and also replaces your old products with more energy efficient equipment. Our research shows you can create a 20 per cent energy reduction by just moving, removing or upgrading your office devices.
Every year, printing technology advances more and more. For example, induction heating fusing has created a new generation of products that are 60-70% more efficient than previous models. At Fuji Xerox, we’re committed to innovation in the realm of sustainability, and a range of our multifunction devices offer reduced energy consumption features, such as EA (Emulsion Aggregation)-Eco toner. This newly developed special toner allows fusing to paper at a much lower temperature so you can save up to 20% power consumption and reduce CO2 emissions by up to 35% compared to normal toners. Multi-function printers such as the DocuPrint CM315 z and the DocuPrint CM415 AP offer this incredible energy-saving feature.
Paper wastage is never okay, and there really is no need for it with today’s available technology. Research shows that up to 20 per cent of printing jobs are never collected and up to 40 per cent are thrown out less than 48 hours after being printed. Using features such as the Print Release function means documents are only printed when the user releases them from the device by swiping a card or entering a code. Fuji Xerox’s latest range of multifunction devices make it easier than ever to use the Print Release as they have the technology in their hardware, meaning there is no need for additional software or servers.
