The Secret Cost Of Old Printing Technology Is Slowing Down SMEs

Did you know that 37% of small business staff lose up to two hours per week on printing related issues? That adds up to 100 hours each year, per staff member.

Much of the wasted productivity is lost to printers being used for other purposes, including copying, or large print runs. And that’s not to mention the number of hours lost to toner replacement and servicing.

Printing in a busy office can be a tricky process – if a printer is out-of-toner, tied up with a large print run, or needs a service it means that print jobs can be stuck in print-queues. Staff will typically resend the job to another device, or simply wait until the printer is back on-line. The business suffers delays, or possibly even grinds to a halt, leaving staff frustrated and customers waiting.

Studies show that on average, staff waste up to 15 minutes manually redirecting print jobs to another device, or give up altogether. It’s a massive unseen cost to the SME sector, wasting staff productivity and hindering efficiency.

Thankfully there is a solution.

On-demand printing is here: Tap 'n' Go

Recently, Fuji Xerox Printers launched their SMART series range of multifunction printers that included an optional feature called Server-less On-Demand Print.

With this option enabled, any organisation is able to benefit from Tap 'n' Go printing.

Instead of a print job being sent directly to the printer, it is sent instead to the network server where they are held, ready for release. Staff can then retrieve their print jobs from any device that’s on the network by identifying themselves when they are standing in front of the printer (by PIN or security card).

This On-Demand print solution usually requires expensive server-based software, but Fuji Xerox Printers have been able to deliver the same benefits for small business at a fraction of the cost.

Instead of staff printing to a specific printer they can now send their print job that is shared among a network of up to five devices. Their print job is not actually printed, but held at each of the five devices until the user is ready to collect their document.

When they’re ready they simply walk up to their closest device and type in their PIN. All of their personal print jobs are shown on the control panel, and they simply release the jobs they need. If their local device is busy or out of operation, they can simply go to their next available device and retrieve it from there.

By adding a card-reader option, instead of typing a PIN, staff can swipe their security card and collect their print jobs, effecting a Tap 'n' Go process for even easier access.

Now available for SME

Fuji Xerox Printers has redesigned Tap 'n' Go technology to put all its benefits into the hands of small to medium businesses. Tap 'n' Go printing is now available in the SMART Series range of multifunction devices. These devices are more than just printers; they deliver a complete business solution in a compact desktop design.
